Accommodation costs are currently at $30.00 per day. 2. Why should I pay money to work for free???? Charities like Bethel Orphanage that cannot afford to cater for volunteers and have limited fundraising avenues consider a fee for accommodation facilities. An interesting book on this subject is How to Live Your Dream of Volunteering Overseas by Joseph Collins, Stefano DeZerega, and Zahara Heckscher, Penguin Books, 2002. The 467+ page book is available at bookstores and online stores like Amazon.com. The accommodation fee at Bethel is one way the Orphanage is enabled to raise funds - by renting out its premises - to volunteers and people using its premises for event receptions such as weddings, meetings, etc. For volunteers the fee is basically an extra donation to the children at Bethel Orphanage. 3. Is Food included? Food is not included in accommodation costs. However, the rented units are self catering homes. They thus have kitchen facilities that volunteers will find of use. Food is very cheap in Zambia, compared to Western nations so it’s likely to account for a small amount of your budget. There are grocery stores to buy food in Kafue and staff Bethel will be happy to accompany you or show you around Kafue town. 4. Does someone pick me/us up from the Airport? Yes. Bethel Orphanage staff will fetch you from the airport. Please make prior arrangements before arriving. Do let us know the duration of your stay as well. 5. What’s there for me to volunteer in? A lot. Everything to do with caring for the children at the Orphanage. Bethel Orphanage has a "menu" of programs volunteers may wish to consider in their volunteering activities. The "menu" is mainly intended for people who want to help but have no idea how they can be of service to the Orphanage once they arrive. Individuals that have skills they prefer to use in their service are better off devising their own program where they consider their abilities fit and make most use. 6. What about international volunteers? Actually almost all resident volunteers at Bethel Orphanage are international volunteers. The single majority have come from Britain, followed by United States, Australia and Canada as the volunteers’ section of the website shows. However volunteers have come from a diverse spectrum from almost all continents. 7. Who can volunteer at Bethel Orphanage? Anyone with a willing heart to help care for the children at Bethel Orphanage. Contact Bethel Orphanage |
