Are our Zambian elections free and fair? What electoral system is needed to avoid regional political party divisions? Are the two party dominance systems like in USA and UK good models? How will the current electoral system shape Zambian politics in the long run?

Comments:
Whatever the outcome let's pray for peace in Zambia. Third world politics feed on divisions not unity. Zambia is a beautiful country. Let's preserve the only country we got. It's our land.
Peace, Jah People

What do you mean its Beautiful country? That country has never developed since the Kaunda government. We can keep on doing the same things opver and over. Its not a one party system either but these selfish people will lead a country to war. Its such kind of behaviour that leads to distruction. You cannot build a country on the foundation of stealing votes and lies

It`s sad to hear about the results of election from Zambia that MMD has won.I live abroad and i was planing to vist my country but i won`t.Please our selfish Zambian leaders don`t take our country to war. I know for sure that MMD lost but stealing votes won`t take so called zambian President anywher

What we need is a new and proper consititution which will not be abused by the sitting government. Thisis why the people wanted to adopt the consititution through the constituent assembley but because the late president was afraid that he may be vulnarable he opted for ncc which he could manuplate. Real Zambian

Mr Negative, Zambia is a beautiful country because of we the people. We don’t want war. We hve remained a peaceful and united nation in spite of occasional divisive moments, power struggles, cheap politics, poverty, you name it.

So the glass is half fool, not half empty. We will continue struggling for our motherland. And the comrade who cannot visit his own country shame on you. You’re an embarrassment to our nation. Stay where we dumped you and never come back. It is amazing you have the guts to utter such trash. You stink. Don’t ever bring your stench to Zambia.

Come on people, calm down. Zambia shall be saved. We will not let politicians to make us fight each other. They have tried it many times but it has never worked. Instead let us try to make a boxing ring for them to play their power hungry game.
May God bless Zambia

personally I think Zambia is in a fix. There are many vicious cycles Zambia is caught up in. One of them is poverty that the majority of the population is in. Another is politicians who seek their own ambitions even at the expense of dividing the flock. And so on.

Until we find a way to break or address the effects of such vicious cycles we Zambians will keep going in circles, or worse ending up allowing politicians to completely divide us.

Hooray for Obama and the cause to fight racial and other barriers. All things are possible to those who believe. Miracles happen. Be open to them.

Congratulations to Mr Rupiah Banda and to Mr Barack Obama. Special respect to our own elections in Zambia. Regardless of the amount or lack of rigging all countries have their controversies in elections.

Obama won because of massive support from the media. They made him the favorable candidate. The media rigged the election for him and yet most of us are happy they did. If they did the same to someone we didnt like (like BUSH) we would be mad. We only rejoice when thingss turn out our way even when some cheating happens. For Zambia I'm happy we can even have elections. Congratulations Mr Banda.

I'm happy for Obama. his charm on people can make him win in any country. Congrats

Obama the world president. Kenya has declared 6th november as a public holiday to celebrate the inauguration of the world president. The British paper Daily Express wrote its headline for Barack Obama: "A New World Dawns." This guy could be an antichrist figure for the new World Order. But he's such a nice guy to hate. Congratulations?

The excitement for Obama is taking over our just ended Zambian elections . Maybe he's our president after all. Mr Banda p-lease step over for Obama. he will strenthen Zambian unity and not undermine it. Forget that America has its own divisions worse than Zambia. because they are not poor they don't fight. Mr obama please bring paradise on earth.

im a Zambian but abroad. Ok in USA. I am just writing to say how much i love my county, Zambia. I am happy the elections went peacefully. Sometimes people think we dont love our motherland. But each person will be judged individually. The money i send home says it all. Mr Banda please unite all Zambians. God bless Zambia. here we are celebrating Obama

Congratulations Zambia. its good to hear about your elections. Africa unite. I visited Zambia long ago. Wonderful expereince. I can see you love Barack Obama. Unfortunately he comes at the wrong time. USA will be the first undustrial nation to become a third world country soon. That is already in motion started by George Bush . Obama will inherit this carefully planned mess. It will squeeze americans to increasingly accept a one world government. There is fire ahead.

"Poli" in Latin means many and "tics" means bloodsucking creatures. That is what poli-tic$ is about. If you want to lose blood put your trust in poli-tian$.

Hey Rose. It's called dumbocracy. Elections are made to fool the masses that they really have a choice. Well they have a nice choice between Lucifer and Satan. Those who support Lucifer cry when Satan wins and vise versa. But they settle down and feel comfortable that they participated. Zambians you too are living in a dumbocracy

Congratulations Mr Rupiah Banda. Please continue Mr Mwanawasa's legacy in lifting the economy of Zambia.

how come you have a picture of Obama on this Zambian website happy for being president of not Zambia and yet you have no picture of our Zambian elected president? Is this a website about ImErica or about Zambia? We're tired of ImErica. they are into every country's business.

Oh gosh UNIP is still in power. When they lost they went to MMD and soon took over. Now they are running Zambia pretending to be MMD. Even Sata is UNIPist. If HH won they they would flock to UPND. Lets work on banishing UNIPists!!!!!!

kwena mudala you are right. These freemasons are united across party lines. Kaunda had the most powerful masons, including Sata and Banda. So UNIP is still in power with its top guys. They will move to any party when it fits. We think we have a choice but we dont.

Congratulations Mr Banda. My choice was Sata but i am not sad. Why should we be angry every election. For me any capable leader will do. You are capable. That is why Mwanawasa picked you. may God bless our nation.

The 6 November Times of Zambia editorial comparing the American and Zambian elections is interesting. One issue is that Zambia is now 44 years and Obama is the 44th US president. Another is that both Rupiah Banda and Barack Obama have countries that have divisions to deal with.

America has racial divisions while Zambia is facing divisions based on our various local languages (which we call tribes).

Thats about al there is to compare. Zambia's launguage divisions came from multiparty politics. People too hungry for power have exploited us and divided us. maybe we should go back to one pary politics. We got along very well. The only thing to avoid is trying to have the govenment to run businesses like in socialism. this failed badly. Ba Banda can you ban all political parties. Enough is enough before divisions lead to real fighting. You rigged the elections but any other party would do it

A one party method would work in getting rid of tribalism that comes from multiparty politics if its representative enough. It also needs a strong constitution to avoid Kaundalism with a president staying forever and being a dictator.

It needs to have presidents rotating from diferent provinces in every period of elections. Elections for choosing a different president are held to pick a suitable candidate from a province that is on for that period. this is almost similar to how the UN works in picking a secretary general. No continet feels left out. here no province feels left out. And no multipaprty nonsense where every province competes to have its own president.

May God bless Zambia land of work and joy in unity. Chalo chesu bonse bena Zambia. Ba Banda remember to continue Mwanawasa's job.

Viva Zambia!

Zambia is on track. Let's not despise small beginings. Banda is the right president for this time. Can't think of any better candidate. But we need to sort out this problem of having someone who barely wins. It's becoming a trend nowadays of wining by one percent. This can cause chaos one day when some people from a party that loses by one percent become too angry. Every election period should a celebration not a nightmare wondering what will hapopen after the elections.
Peace

Our elections are not free and fair. Typical third world mentality! Those in power have all the resources for compaining at hand and see to it that they win, even through ballot rigging.

Isn't it possible to know the number of people who voted compared with the number of people alive and eligible to vote? The figures which were read during last year's elections did not make much sense.

We need a very good system to check these figures, including people in villages. They can't be so many thausands in one village.

We need correct statistics.

Third world countries election are easily be manipulated by those who are in powers. Once there's a thesis said, fraud, cheating, election violence whatever it is, we have to condemn it. It's not only Zambia this thing happens, anywhere in the world.

The people need to unite, get out and vote!!

Zambia is a cheesy backward bumfuck country. Even the Zambian TV station website has been noit paid for. Yoiu cannot access it.

Fuck.

Why do some Zambians wish to leave their country, and why won't they allow people from other African Countries to cross the border without paying the guards money they should not be paying to begin with? What corruption that is, and I heard if you don't pay money they sometimes beat you. What is that?!
Doesn't the Zambian government know of it's own corruption. I fail to understand how so many African countries remain devided.
